Advisor and founding partner of BMJ, Welber Barral focuses on international trade and international investment issues. He served as an arbitrator at the Permanent Review Tribunal of Mercosur and in the dispute settlement system of the World Trade Organization (WTO), accumulating over thirty years of experience as a consultant to multilateral agencies and companies in Latin America. In 2007, Barral was appointed Secretary of Foreign Trade of Brazil, a position he held until 2011. He is currently an Advisor to the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and President of the Brazilian Institute of Foreign Trade and Investment (IBCI) since 2018. Barral holds a Master’s degree in International Relations (UFSC) and a Ph.D. in International Law (USP). He was a Visiting Fellow in International Trade Law at Georgetown University, having taught at several universities in Brazil and abroad.
